Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix's Page

The Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix Association is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization with a mission to hold a world-class vintage automotive event for charity. It is the region's premier summer event for hundreds of thousands of automotive enthusiasts in that it combines charitable fundraising with car shows and vintage sports car racing on city streets.

The 2013 Race Week runs from July 7th through the 21st culminating with our 31th annual vintage races and car shows at Schenley Park on the weekend of July 20/21. Since 1983 this volunteer-driven event has raised over $2.75 million for the Autism Society of Pittsburgh and Allegheny Valley School.

Dear Friends,

I suggest that you add the 2011 Race to the Events Calendar. +Add New Event  It is free and real easy to do. You can make it as fancy as you like (I love what you done to this page) or as simple as you choose. We will help get the word out nationally. We also have a national radio show on which I can interview you about the race.

Also, please change the name here to your personal name as this is a social network base calendar. We have found it works much better as an individual based operation. Also, this frees up your organization to set up a group/club on the listing. This listing gives you a comment list and and forum to set up back links to your website. +Add A Group

When you get your supporters and members to join the lisiting, it can be powerful force in improving communciations and your Search Engine Optimization, as well.  Let me know how I can help.

Welcome Friends!!
Welcome over to our website! I am so pleased to have you here! This is a great site for those of us that love old cars and bikes!! :-) Thank you for informing us about the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix.
Whether you are looking to attend events or when you are interested in helping promote and publicize events, we are pleased to help bring a broader awareness about auto, truck and motorcycle events throughout the US. There are so many things we can do together to increase attention to our mutual interest in "wheels". The more members and participants you get to join and "RSVP", the higher ranking I can push for your club/event on the search engines. Please note that we provide a unique URL for all events you post here, and this is good to use in emails and other links.
We are eager to see some photos & videos of your vintage cars, as well as of the various other vehicles you favor, and all the events you enjoy, too. We want as many photos as we can get. Please announce this at any shows you attend, as we want to get the word out! It is good to write about your "wheels" adventures on the blog, as we all enjoy stories from our members.
As you can see, one of the real strengths of our website is the feature that any member can add events whenever they find one that have not been listed! You do not have to "submit" through emails or the postal service, etc.
If I can help at all with any of your projects, call me at 770-883-0160.
Sincerely,
Mike Thies

 1957 DESOTO ADVENTURER COUPE

Under the guidance of their visionary chief designer Virgil Exner, Chrysler Corporation finally broke free of their staid and conservative design language of the late 1940s and early 1950s with the influential new “Forward Look” of 1955. Chrysler began hinting at its reborn sense of style through a series of dream cars that were the product of a collaboration between Exner and Ghia’s Luigi “Gigi” Segre. The Forward Look thrust Chrysler back into the spotlight and ushered in the era of chrome, fins, and flamboyant style.

This DeSoto Adventurer is one of only 1650 coupes built for the 1957 model year. This lovely example wears an older restoration that has seen many years of regular care and maintenance in the hands of a seasoned collector. According to the trim tag, this car is a genuine Adventurer Sportsman Coupe, correctly finished in original Surf White with Adventurer Gold roof and lower body sweep.

Comprehensively restored a few years after being found. It presents in very good condition, with straight panels and factory-appropriate gaps. Chrome trim and brightwork are also in good condition, with very good bumpers and moldings showing some light polish marks from regular care. This car retains the original gold-anodized wheel covers, unique to the Adventurer. Because of their delicate nature, most get painted during restoration, so it is rare to find a set with the anodized plating intact.

Interior features factory-correct upholstery, which is specific to the Adventurer and corresponds with the trim tag. The fawn-gold seats have white accents and distinct tweed-style fabric inserts. Door panels match the chairs and feature patterned-alloy inserts that repeat on the instrument fascia. The carpets, dash top, and other interior panels are all in fine condition. Period correct “Flookerang” logo floor mats (the official symbol of The New Look) protect the carpets. The top-line Adventurer came equipped with a radio, push button transmission control, and deluxe heater, and this car adds the optional power-adjustable front seat.
